FIFA Officials Arrested For Widespread Corruption

The New York Times reports that Swiss Authorities, backed by the FBI, arrested several high-ranking FIFA officials on a 14 defendant corruption indictment. FIFA President Sepp Blatter was not among those indicted. The assorted charges stem from a whistleblower’s claim of the bribery of several African nations to vote for Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup, a decision criticized by gay rights groups for the country’s strict ant-gay laws.
