As of October 15, 2012, TWC will be charging their customers an Internet Modem Lease Fee of $3.95 for all TWC provided Internet modems. TWC provided the web link with only two cable modems listed as approved to purchase for use on their system, one only available to consumers, the other according to Motorola only available for commercial use to companies like TWC.
Additionally, both of the above cable modems do not handle cable telephone. So, if you have telephone and internet provided by TWC, you need to keep THE SAME EXACT DEVICE THAT TWC WAS GOING TO CHARGE YOU $3.95 A MONTH FOR AND THEN CONNECT YOUR NEW CABLE MODEM TO IT.
On Thursday, October 4, 2012, when I discussed this with TWC representative Ms. Powell employee #472, she said TWC does not charge cable telephone customers for the cable modem but if you then add internet service, which uses the same device, you have to pay the modem leasing fee for the same device you already have in your home.
While I was on hold waiting for a supervisor, Ms. Powell did not mute the telephone and she was discussing our conversation with a coworker and said that they have to come up with something better because “he has a valid point.”
I have contacted New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s office this morning and they stated they were going to reach out to TWC in regards.
